41K gallons of syrup, 40K pounds of bee pollen substitute donated to Florida beekeepers impacted by hurricanes

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – A nonprofit said they helped donate nearly 10 tankers of syrup and 40,000 pounds of bee pollen substitute to Florida beekeepers impacted by hurricanes Helene and Milton.

According to a news release, Greater Good Charities, Mann Lake, Cargill, and the Florida Beekeepers Association teamed up to donate and deliver the 41,000 gallons of syrup and pollen substitute to hundreds of beekeepers.

Officials said that beekeepers lined up in their vehicles for distribution at the event in Winter Haven on Saturday afternoon.

The event was “part of a larger mission and distribution event series to help feed billions of bees in the Southeast impacted by the storms that are at risk of starving to death to avoid an ecological disaster,” according to the release.

A second distribution event will be held in Homerville, Georgia with future events in the Carolinas.

Officials with the nonprofit said that the hurricanes wiped out plant forage and destroyed or damaged hives for beekeepers in the South, “threatening the starvation of billions of bees used to pollinate food crops across the country.”
